The Sunfish team has spent several days congratulating and saying goodbye to Mr. Williamson.  We will truly miss him on this team and in this school.

Sunfish Team 2002-2003

Mr. Blevins will step in as his replacement for the remainder of this school year.  Mr Blevins has 33 years teaching experience, several of which were at BCMS.  We are truly lucky to find such a qualified replacement to join us mid year.  Mr. Blevins and I worked together for 2 years before Mr. Williamson came to BCMS.  The picture above shows Mr. Blevins on the far left…. See if you can find a younger version of me!!!!!!!

NORTH AFRICA TEST THURSDAY!

Our first test of the 3rd nine weeks will cover North Africa and will be this Tuesday, February 7th.  It will cover pages 191-196, and 221-231.  We watched a worlds apart video in class and had a couple class readings that we read associated with this section.  We have a lot of time on this particular section but it is a very new topic to most students and sparks a lot of good class discussions.  There were also several current events stories taking place in Egypt that we have been following.  Study guide is attached.

Students have a long weekend coming up in part due to Martin Luther King Jr day.  We briefly discussed Dr. King’s life on Friday.  Mrs. Koczot will hopefully get a chance to  follow up in the future weeks from a language arts view point to take a closer look at the content of his speeches.  Below are some links to learn more about Dr. King.

East Africa QUIZ will be this Friday, Jan 13th.  It will cover very little information out of the book but instead cover many current events/situations going on in East Africa.  Students have received this information in class with notes.  We have decided to move very fast through this chapter since a lot of the concepts are similar to the rest of sub Saharan Africa.  I am excited to move past African culture and begin to talk about Islamic culture and the Middle East.  I think we are all ready for a change!

Quiz will include the political map of East Africa we made in class and class notes.  Don’t forget South Sudan!!!!

Test Thursday of this week will cover Central and Southern Africa.  We are trying to pick up the pace of the class to make sure we cover everything, plus I think the kids have a good handle on Africa in general.  This test will cover pages 209-213 and 289-301 in the textbook.  Your student should be able to tell you who these two pictures are of and what they did.
