East Africa QUIZ will be this Friday, Jan 13th.  It will cover very little information out of the book but instead cover many current events/situations going on in East Africa.  Students have received this information in class with notes.  We have decided to move very fast through this chapter since a lot of the concepts are similar to the rest of sub Saharan Africa.  I am excited to move past African culture and begin to talk about Islamic culture and the Middle East.  I think we are all ready for a change!

Quiz will include the political map of East Africa we made in class and class notes.  Don’t forget South Sudan!!!!

Test Thursday of this week will cover Central and Southern Africa.  We are trying to pick up the pace of the class to make sure we cover everything, plus I think the kids have a good handle on Africa in general.  This test will cover pages 209-213 and 289-301 in the textbook.  Your student should be able to tell you who these two pictures are of and what they did.

We have been trucking along through Chapter 7 as fast as we can.  There are a lot of fun supplemental materials out there on the information we have been covering.  Ancient Egypt is always a student favorite as we tell about how mummies were made or write our names in hieroglyphics.  Find out a lot more about Ancient Egypt by clicking here.

Everyone loves to learn about the discovery of King Tuts tomb.  Here are some great links about…

3rdworld

Sunfish students should have a lot of fun playing 3rd World Farmer this week after our big test.  We are learning that farming in a 3rd world country is not as easy as it sounds.  Most land in Africa is dificult or impossible to farm.  There are many problems and issues that subsistence farmers in Africa are forced to deal with.  Today, Friday October 7th, students are to play 3rd world farmer and post one comment to this post about one hardship of farming they experienced.

Social Studies Textbook Info

I have had many questions about access to Social Studies textbooks from home this year so I wanted to post the answers real quick.

Our textbook is NOT online.

Extra textbooks are available for students to check out from me and keep at home as needed, or for the entire year.  I told the students at the beginning of the year that they can take a book home for the entire school year if they wanted.  Many students have checked them out and taken them home.

Students are welcome to check a book out at any time this year
